Paver Sealing
Should I seal my pavers?
Yes, in most cases. A quality sealer locks the joint sand in place, slows weed and ant activity, resists stains, and protects the color from fading in the Florida sun. Unsealed pavers usually lose joint sand faster, and that's when shifting and sinking start. See why sealing pays off.
How often do brick pavers need to be resealed in Florida?
Most Tampa Bay pavers need a fresh coat every 2 to 5 years. Full sun, heavy vehicle traffic, irrigation overspray, and nearby trees all shorten that window. We'll tell you honestly when you're due, and when you're not.
What sealer do you use?
We use professional Trident Protects sealers, including Hurricane Cat 5 for joint stabilizing and Cyclone for a natural, non-enhanced look. They're breathable, so moisture can escape instead of turning the finish cloudy.
How long before I can walk or drive on my sealed pavers?
Plan on 24 hours before foot traffic and 48 hours before driving on a freshly sealed driveway. Allow extra time in cold or damp weather. Florida humidity can stretch those times a little, and we'll give you exact timing on the day of service.
Should I seal my brick pavers?
For most Florida homes, yes. Sealing locks in joint sand, slows weeds and ants, makes stains easier to clean, and keeps the color from fading in the sun. Pavers that lose their joint sand can shift and sink, which costs far more to fix than sealing.
From Paver Sealing
What is the best sealer for brick pavers in Florida?
There isn't one sealer that's right for every job. We use Trident Protects products and match them to your pavers and the look you want. Hurricane Cat 5 is our go-to joint-stabilizing sealer, and Trident Cyclone is a great choice for a natural, matte finish.
From Paver Sealing
How often should pavers be resealed in Tampa Bay?
Plan on every 2 to 5 years. Full sun, vehicle traffic, irrigation overspray, and trees overhead all shorten the window. A quick water test helps; if water soaks in fast instead of beading, it's usually time.
From Paver Sealing
How long until I can use my driveway after sealing?
Give it 24 hours before walking on it and 48 hours before driving on it. Allow extra time in cold or damp weather. Humid weather can add a little time, and we'll confirm exact timing when we finish.
From Paver Sealing
Why does sealer need to be stripped?
New sealer can't fix failed sealer underneath. If the old coat is white, peeling, or blotchy, it has to come off first.
Can travertine be stripped?
Yes, with stone-safe strippers and careful rinsing. Our customer Matt M. put it simply: the crew stripped the old layers off and resealed it, and it looks like new.
Is stripping hard on pavers?
Done correctly, no. We use strippers made for pavers and stone, and rinse thoroughly before re-sanding and sealing.
Does stripping cost extra?
Yes. It's extra labor and product, and we list it separately on your written estimate.
Can you work after hours?
We schedule around your business and residents whenever possible. Let us know your requirements.
Do you provide certificates of insurance?
Yes. We're licensed and insured for all Florida counties and provide a vendor packet on request.
Can you add slip resistance in high-traffic areas?
Yes. A slip-resistant additive is available for an additional charge.
Is efflorescence a defect?
No. It's a natural process where salts inside concrete or stone travel to the surface with moisture.
From Efflorescence
Will efflorescence go away on its own?
It often fades over the first months, but it can keep coming back. It must be removed before sealing.
From Efflorescence
What do you use to remove it?
We use efflorescence cleaners made for pavers and stone, such as Trident White Water, at the dilution the surface needs, and test first.
From Efflorescence
How do I choose a joint sand color?
Pick a color that blends with the darker tones in your pavers for a uniform look, or a contrasting color to outline each paver. We bring samples to your estimate.
Can I change from a wet look to a natural finish later?
A wet-look film sealer usually has to be stripped before switching to a natural finish. It's best to choose carefully the first time, and we're happy to show you examples.
Which finish lasts longest?
Durability depends more on the sealer type, prep, and traffic than on shine level. Two-part urethane sealers like Hurricane CAT 5 are built for high-traffic areas.
How do I clean sealed pavers?
Sweep, then rinse with a garden hose. For dirt or mildew, use a mild cleaner made for sealed pavers and a soft brush. Avoid high pressure, which can damage sealer and joints.
Can I use bleach on pavers?
A diluted mildew cleaner is fine on concrete pavers, but rinse well and protect plants. Avoid harsh chemicals on travertine and marble.
How do I stop weeds between pavers?
Keep joints full of sand and sealed. Joint-stabilizing sealer hardens the sand so seeds have a harder time taking root.
When should I reseal?
When water stops beading and soaks in quickly, usually every 2 to 5 years.
What does paver restoration include?
A deep clean, stain treatment, any needed repairs or re-leveling, fresh joint sand, and a joint-stabilizing sealer. If old sealer has failed, it's stripped first.
From Paver Restoration
Can faded pavers be restored?
Yes. Cleaning removes the dull film, and a color-enhancing or wet-look sealer brings back much of the original color.
From Paver Restoration
How do you fix sunken pavers?
We work with the highest rated local paver installers to lift, rebuild the base, and reset pavers level before we sand and seal.
From Paver Restoration
How long does restored paver sealing last?
Usually 2 to 5 years in Tampa Bay, depending on sun, traffic, and maintenance.
From Paver Restoration
How long does the whole process take?
Most homes take one to two days. Stripping old sealer, repairs, or heavy stains can add time.
From See Our Process
Do I need to be home?
Not for the work itself. We'll confirm access, water, and the plan with you ahead of time.
From See Our Process
Why do you wet-sand instead of dry-sweep?
Washing sand into the joints packs it tighter than dry sweeping. The sand dries quickly and is ready for sealer.
From See Our Process
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Paver Sealing Florida is licensed and insured for all Florida counties, and we provide a vendor packet on request.
From See Our Process
Travertine
Does salt water damage travertine?
It can. Salt water soaks into the stone, then dries into crystals that can leave white residue or cause small pits over time.
From Travertine around salt water pools: what you need to know
What sealer is best for travertine around a salt pool?
A breathable, water-repellent penetrating sealer is the usual choice. It reduces how much salt water gets in without a film that can peel.
From Travertine around salt water pools: what you need to know
How should I care for travertine by a salt pool?
Rinse the deck and coping with fresh water regularly, keep it sealed, and clean white residue early with a stone-safe product.
From Travertine around salt water pools: what you need to know
Should travertine be sealed in Florida?
Yes. Travertine is porous and full of tiny holes, so it soaks up water, pool chemicals, dirt, and stains. Sealing reduces absorption, slows mildew, and makes the stone much easier to keep clean.
From Travertine Sealing
What is the best sealer for a travertine pool deck?
A breathable sealer made for natural stone. For a natural look we use an invisible penetrating sealer; for richer color we can use an enhancing option. We test a small area first.
From Travertine Sealing
Will sealing make my travertine slippery?
Penetrating sealers don't leave a film, so they don't change the feel of the stone. Enhancing or glossy finishes can feel slicker when wet, and we offer a slip resistance add-on for an additional charge.
From Travertine Sealing
How often should travertine be resealed?
Typically every 2 to 5 years, depending on sun, salt water, and use. If water soaks in instead of beading, it's time.
From Travertine Sealing
Is sealing travertine necessary?
It isn't required, but unsealed travertine stains, grows mildew, and wears faster in Florida, especially around salt water pools.
Does sealing change the look?
A penetrating sealer keeps the natural look. An enhancing sealer deepens color. You choose.
What cleaner is safe for travertine?
A pH-neutral cleaner made for natural stone. Avoid vinegar, lemon, and acidic or bleach-heavy cleaners.
Can I pressure wash travertine myself?
Use low pressure, a wide tip, and keep it moving. High pressure can etch the surface and wash out joints.
How do I remove white haze from travertine?
It's usually salt or efflorescence. Rinse and gently scrub early; stubborn haze needs a stone-safe efflorescence cleaner.
Should I seal my travertine?
In Florida, usually yes. Sealing reduces stains, mildew, and salt damage, and makes cleaning easier.
What type of sealer is best for travertine?
A breathable sealer made for natural stone: an invisible penetrating sealer for a natural look, or an enhancing option for richer color. We test first.
How often should travertine be sealed?
Every 2 to 5 years for most pool decks, depending on sun, salt, and use.
Will sealing make travertine slippery?
Penetrating sealers don't change the feel. Glossy or enhancing finishes can feel slicker when wet; a slip resistance add-on is available for an additional charge.
Is travertine cooler than pavers?
Light-colored travertine generally stays cooler underfoot than darker concrete pavers, which is why it's popular around pools.
Which lasts longer?
Both can last decades when installed and maintained properly. Pavers are easier to replace individually; travertine needs more careful cleaning.
Do both need sealing?
Both benefit. Pavers need joint-stabilizing sealer; travertine needs a breathable stone sealer.
What is the best travertine finish for a pool deck?
Tumbled or brushed travertine is popular for pool decks because the texture offers better grip than polished stone.
What colors does travertine come in?
Common outdoor colors include ivory, light beige and classic, walnut, noce, gold, silver, and multi-color blends.
Should filled and unfilled travertine be sealed differently?
Both should be sealed. Unfilled travertine has open holes that collect dirt; filled travertine's filler can affect how sealer absorbs, so we test first.
Is polished travertine good outdoors?
It can be slippery when wet, so it's better for decorative areas than pool decks.
Marble and Natural Stone
Can shellstone be pressure washed?
Only gently. Shellstone is soft and high pressure can erode it. We use low pressure and stone-safe cleaners.
Should shellstone be sealed?
Yes. It's very porous and stains easily. A breathable penetrating sealer reduces absorption without changing its natural look.
Why is my shellstone turning black?
Mold and mildew grow easily in its open pores, especially in shade. A gentle deep clean and sealing help.
Do marble pavers need to be sealed?
Yes, outdoor marble is porous and absorbs water, pool chemicals, and stains. A penetrating sealer reduces absorption and makes the stone easier to keep clean.
From Marble Paver Sealing
Will sealing change the color of my marble?
Not with an invisible penetrating sealer. If you'd like richer color, we can discuss enhancing options and test a small area first.
From Marble Paver Sealing
Can you clean marble without damaging it?
Yes. Marble reacts to acids, so we use stone-safe cleaners and controlled pressure, and test first.
From Marble Paver Sealing
Do you serve my area for marble sealing?
We seal marble across Tampa Bay, including Tampa, Brandon, Riverview, Apollo Beach, Lithia, and Wesley Chapel. See all service areas.
From Marble Paver Sealing
Should outdoor marble be sealed in Florida?
Yes, in most cases. Marble is porous and absorbs water, pool chemicals, and stains. A breathable penetrating sealer reduces absorption and makes the stone easier to keep clean, without changing how it looks.
From Marble & Stone FAQs
How often should marble and limestone be resealed?
Usually every few years, depending on sun, foot traffic, salt exposure, and how often it's cleaned. If water soaks in instead of beading, it's time to reseal.
From Marble & Stone FAQs
Can marble be pressure washed?
Carefully. High pressure can etch or roughen marble and limestone. We use lower pressure, the right tips, and stone-safe cleaners to clean without damaging the surface.
From Marble & Stone FAQs
Why do acidic cleaners damage marble?
Marble and limestone are made mostly of calcium carbonate, which reacts with acid. Vinegar, many rust removers, and some pool chemicals can etch the surface and leave dull spots. Always use cleaners labeled safe for natural stone.
From Marble & Stone FAQs
What is the best sealer for outdoor marble in Florida?
For most outdoor marble, a breathable penetrating sealer is the safest choice. It protects against water, salt, and stains without changing the look of the stone or creating a film that can peel. We test on a small area first to confirm the result on your stone.
Will a penetrating sealer make my marble shiny or darker?
No. Break Wall and Sea Wall are invisible sealers. Your marble or limestone keeps its natural color and texture. If you want a richer, enhanced color, ask us about enhancing options during your estimate.
Can you use a wet look paver sealer on marble?
We don't recommend it. Trident's data sheet for Hurricane CAT 5, a wet look urethane sealer, says it isn't recommended for marble, granite, or polished and honed surfaces because they don't have enough texture to absorb the sealer.
What's the difference between water-based and solvent-based penetrating sealers?
Both soak into the stone and repel water and salt. Water-based sealers like Break Wall are low odor and can go on dry or damp surfaces. Solvent-based sealers like Sea Wall are built for the toughest exposure, such as seawalls, docks, and areas with constant salt spray.
Do you repair travertine and marble yourselves?
We work with the highest rated local paver and stone installers to assure your repairs are done correctly before sealing. We coordinate the work, then clean and seal the stone.
Can cracked travertine be replaced?
Yes. Individual stones can usually be removed and replaced. Color can vary between batches of natural stone, so we look for the closest match, often from leftover stones you may have stored.
Why is my travertine coping loose?
Coping is usually set in mortar, and heat, water, and movement can break that bond over time. Loose coping should be reset before sealing, both for safety and to keep water out.
Should I seal travertine after repairs?
Yes. Sealing after repairs protects the new and old stone together and helps the repair blend in.
What's the difference between limestone, marble, and travertine?
All three are calcium-based natural stones. Limestone forms from compressed shells and sediment and is usually soft and porous. Marble is limestone that was transformed by heat and pressure, so it's denser with more veining. Travertine is a type of limestone formed around mineral springs, which is why it has natural holes.
From Marble & Stone
Should outdoor limestone and marble be sealed in Florida?
Yes, in most cases. Both stones absorb water, pool chemicals, and stains. A breathable penetrating sealer reduces absorption, slows mildew, and makes cleaning easier without changing how the stone looks.
From Marble & Stone
What sealer do you use on limestone and marble?
We use Trident penetrating sealers, such as water-based Break Wall and solvent-based Sea Wall, chosen for the stone and how much salt and water it sees. We don't use film-forming wet look sealers like Hurricane CAT 5 on marble, because Trident doesn't recommend it for marble or polished stone.
From Marble & Stone
Will sealing change the color or finish of my stone?
Not with an invisible penetrating sealer. Your limestone or marble keeps its natural color and texture. If you'd like a richer color, we can discuss enhancing options and test a small area first.
From Marble & Stone
What are the benefits of sandblasted marble?
A textured, matte surface with better grip than polished stone, a natural look, and comfortable feel around pools.
From Sandblasted Marble
Does sandblasted marble need sealing?
Yes. It's porous and its texture holds dirt, so sealing helps it resist stains, mildew, and salt.
From Sandblasted Marble
How do you clean sandblasted marble?
With stone-safe, non-acidic cleaners and controlled pressure, because marble reacts to acids.
From Sandblasted Marble
Which sealer do you use?
A breathable penetrating sealer such as Trident Break Wall or Sea Wall, tested first.

Yes. Paver Sealing Florida is licensed and insured for all Florida counties, and we provide a vendor packet on request.
Can oil stains be removed from concrete?
Fresh oil stains usually come out well. Old, deep stains often lighten a lot but may leave a shadow.
From Driveway Cleaning
Do you seal concrete driveways?
Our sealing focus is pavers, travertine, and natural stone. For paver driveways, see driveway paver sealing.
From Driveway Cleaning
How often should a concrete driveway be cleaned?
Once or twice a year keeps mildew and stains from building up in Tampa Bay's humidity.
From Driveway Cleaning
How long before I can drive on my sealed driveway?
Plan on 24 hours before walking on it or returning furniture, and 48 hours before driving on it. Allow extra time in cold or damp weather. Humid weather can add time, and we'll confirm the timing when we finish.
Can you remove oil stains and tire marks?
We treat oil and tire marks before sealing. Fresh stains usually come out well; older, deep stains often lighten a lot but may not disappear completely. We'll tell you what to expect during the estimate.
Will sealing stop my driveway pavers from sinking?
Sealing locks the joint sand in place, which helps prevent the shifting that leads to sinking. Pavers that have already sunk need to be lifted and releveled first, which we cover under paver restoration.
Which finish is best for a driveway?
It's your choice. Many homeowners pick a color-enhancing or wet-look finish for curb appeal, while others prefer a natural matte look. We'll show you samples.
What is hardscape restoration?
It's bringing outdoor stone and paver surfaces back to like-new condition: deep cleaning, stain treatment, repairs, fresh joint sand, and sealing, all in one project.
Which hardscapes can be restored?
Paver driveways, patios, walkways, and pool decks; travertine and marble decks; shellstone and coquina; seat walls, steps, fire pit areas, and pool coping.
Is restoration better than replacing my pavers?
Usually, if the base is sound. Restoration costs a fraction of replacement and can make faded, stained pavers look new again.
Do you handle repairs?
We work with the highest rated local paver installers to assure your repairs are done correctly before sealing, then we clean, sand, and seal the whole area.
Can you seal a patio under a screened lanai?
Yes. Screened areas often stay damp and grow mildew, so we clean thoroughly and protect the screen, furniture, and nearby surfaces while we work.
Will sealing protect against grill grease and food stains?
Sealing makes stains easier to clean because spills sit on the surface longer instead of soaking in right away. Wipe up grease and food spills quickly for best results.
Do I need to move my patio furniture?
It helps if you can. If not, let us know during the estimate and we'll plan for it.
Can you seal fire pit areas and seat walls?
We clean and seal paver patios around fire pits and seat walls. We'll talk through which surfaces should be sealed and which should be left alone.
Is paver cleaning the same as pressure washing?
Not quite. We use commercial surface cleaners and controlled pressure made for pavers, which clean evenly without stripping too much joint sand or leaving stripes.
From Paver Cleaning
Do I need to seal after cleaning?
You don't have to, but cleaning removes some joint sand and opens the surface. Sealing right after a deep clean gives you the most protection for your money.
From Paver Cleaning
Can you remove rust and oil during cleaning?
Yes. We treat common stains like rust, oil, and mildew as part of the cleaning when you choose that option on your estimate.
From Paver Cleaning
How often should pavers be cleaned?
A light rinse every few weeks helps. A professional deep clean every year or two keeps mildew and stains from building up, especially in shady areas.
From Paver Cleaning
Do you repair pavers yourselves?
We work with the highest rated local paver installers to assure your repairs are done correctly before sealing. We coordinate the repair, then clean, sand, and seal so the whole surface matches.
Why do pavers sink or shift?
Usually because joint sand washed out, the base under the pavers settled, roots pushed up, or water drained under an edge. Fixing the base and joints is what keeps the repair from coming back.
Should pavers be repaired before sealing?
Yes. Sealer locks pavers in place as they are. Repairing first means you aren't sealing in a low spot or a trip hazard.
Can you match broken pavers?
Often, yes, using matching pavers you have stored or a close color from the manufacturer. Older or discontinued pavers can be harder to match, and we'll tell you up front.
When should new pavers or travertine be sealed?
Many installers wait about 60 to 90 days so efflorescence can surface and be cleaned. Some breathable sealers can go on sooner. We check the surface and recommend timing that fits your schedule and warranty.
Can you work around our project schedule?
Yes. Tell us your timeline and we'll schedule sealing after final cleanup, fill, and inspections, and before the homeowner moves in when needed.
Do you provide insurance certificates?
Yes. We're licensed and insured for all Florida counties and provide a vendor packet, including insurance documents, on request.
Can you seal travertine and marble pool decks?
Yes. We use stone-safe cleaners and breathable sealers, and test the stone first so the finish matches what your client expects.
Will you get sand or sealer in my pool?
We work carefully around the water, and we clean the pool the same day we finish the deck. That keeps sand and rinse water out of your filter and gets your pool back in use quickly.
From Pool Deck Sealing
Is a sealed pool deck slippery?
A properly applied sealer shouldn't make a pool deck slick. We choose finishes that keep good traction and never flood-coat a pool deck. For extra grip, we offer a slip resistance add-on for an additional charge.
From Pool Deck Sealing
Which sealer is best for a travertine pool deck?
Travertine needs a breathable, stone-safe sealer. For a natural look we use a penetrating sealer; for richer color we can use an enhancing option. We test a small area first so you can see the result.
From Pool Deck Sealing
Does a salt water pool damage pavers and travertine?
Salt splashes onto the deck, soaks in, and dries into crystals that can wear down the surface over time. Sealing reduces how much salt water soaks in and makes the deck easier to rinse clean.
From Pool Deck Sealing
Can you pressure wash travertine?
Gently. Natural stone needs lower pressure and stone-safe cleaners.
From Pressure Washing
Will pressure washing remove oil and rust?
Not by itself. Oil and rust need treatment; pressure washing then rinses them away.
From Pressure Washing
Should I seal after pressure washing?
For pavers, it's the ideal time, because cleaning removes joint sand and leaves the surface ready for sealer.
From Pressure Washing
How often should sealed pavers be maintained?
A professional clean every year or two and resealing every 2 to 5 years keeps most surfaces in great shape.
From Property Maintenance
Do you offer maintenance for HOAs?
Yes. We schedule cleaning and resealing of common areas and pool decks around residents.
From Property Maintenance
Can rust stains be removed from pavers?
Most rust stains can be removed or greatly reduced with a rust remover matched to the surface. Deep, old stains may lighten rather than disappear.
From Rust & Stain Removal
Is rust removal safe for travertine and marble?
Only with stone-safe products. Many rust removers are acidic and can etch calcium-based stone, so we test first.
From Rust & Stain Removal
Will the rust come back?
If sprinklers keep spraying well water on the pavers, yes. Redirecting sprinklers or adding an iron filter helps, and sealing makes future stains easier to clean.
From Rust & Stain Removal
Do you remove stains before sealing?
Always. Sealer locks in whatever is on the surface, so stains are treated first.
From Rust & Stain Removal
How much does slip resistance cost?
It's an add-on with an additional charge based on the size of the area. We'll include it as a separate line on your written estimate so you can decide.
Will I be able to see or feel the slip resistant additive?
You may feel a slightly textured surface underfoot, which is what provides the extra grip. It's designed to blend in with the sealer finish.
Where is slip resistance most helpful?
Pool decks, walkways, front entries, steps, and shady areas that stay damp. It's especially helpful in homes with young children or older family members.
Do all sealers make pavers slippery?
No, but glossy finishes and heavy coats can feel slick when wet. Trident notes that excessive application can make a surface slippery and that some surfaces may need an anti-slip additive.
Where can I read more reviews?
On our Google Business Profile. Use the Find us on Google Maps link at the bottom of any page.
From Reviews
Do you offer slip-resistant coatings?
Yes. We now offer slip-resistant coatings for travertine, marble, natural stone, and pavers, using clear Cobble Grip by SurfaceLogix with a non-skid additive in the final coat. It is an add-on for an additional charge.
Where should slip-resistant coating go first?
Pool decks, spa surrounds, steps, pool entries, coping edges, and shady walkways that stay damp. We can coat the whole deck or just the high-risk spots.

Products
Why do you use Trident Hurricane CAT 5?
It has twice as much urethane as other brands, giving commercial-grade protection, excellent color enhancement, and joint stability. Most customers report 3 to 4 years before needing a reseal.
From Hurricane CAT 5
Why don't you use big-box store sealers?
Professional sealers are designed for higher performance and must be mixed, diluted, and applied correctly. They're built for traffic, UV, and Florida humidity.
Are the products warrantied?
Sealing products are warrantied by the manufacturer, typically for one year. Paver Sealing Florida also offers a Lifetime Guarantee on labor.
Which sealer is right for my pavers?
It depends on the surface and finish. We recommend one during your free estimate and test natural stone first.
What colors of joint sand do you offer?
Pearl, Tan, Gray, Fieldstone, Platinum, and Black.
From Paver Joint Sand
Why ASTM C144 sand?
It's coarse and angular, so it locks together in the joint and is more stable than fine or rounded sand.
From Paver Joint Sand
How wide can joints be?
This sand is recommended for joints up to 3/4 inch.
From Paver Joint Sand
Can PolySweep be sealed?
Yes. Trident sealers can go on after the sand has been activated and allowed to set, per the manufacturer's timing.
Is polymeric sand better than regular joint sand?
Each has its place. For most resealing jobs we use joint sand plus a joint-stabilizing sealer; polymeric sand suits some new or rebuilt areas.
What does Trident Master Certified mean?
We're trained by Trident on its sealers, cleaners, and application methods, and on how pavers and stone fail in Florida's climate.
From Trident Protects
Can I buy Trident sealers myself?
Many are sold for professional use only and require mixing and dilution. Results depend on prep and application.
From Trident Protects
Will Break Wall change how my surface looks?
No. It's an invisible penetrating sealer.
From Break Wall
Can Break Wall go on damp surfaces?
Trident describes it as applying easily on dry or damp surfaces, with two coats applied wet-on-wet for best results.
From Break Wall
What surfaces is it for?
Concrete and clay pavers, natural and manufactured stone containing quartz or other silicas, concrete, retaining wall block, exposed aggregate, unglazed tile, and grout. Always test first.
From Break Wall
Is Hurricane CAT 5 slippery?
Applied correctly, it isn't overly slick, but any high-gloss finish can feel slippery when wet. Trident notes that excessive application can make a surface slippery and some surfaces may need an anti-slip additive. We offer a slip resistance add-on for an additional charge.
From Hurricane CAT 5
What finish does Hurricane CAT 5 give?
It ranges from semi-gloss to high-gloss with deep color enhancement, depending on the dilution used for each coat.
From Hurricane CAT 5
Can Hurricane CAT 5 be used on marble?
No. Trident's data sheet says it isn't recommended for marble, granite, ceramic tile, or polished and honed surfaces. For marble we use penetrating sealers instead.
From Hurricane CAT 5
How long before I can drive on pavers sealed with CAT 5?
Plan on 24 hours before foot traffic and 48 hours before driving. Allow extra time in cold or damp weather. We'll confirm timing for the weather on your service day.
From Hurricane CAT 5
What is a penetrating sealer?
A sealer that soaks into the surface and bonds inside the pores, instead of forming a film on top. It repels water and salt while letting moisture vapor escape.
From Penetrating Sealers
Will a penetrating sealer change the look of my stone?
Break Wall and Sea Wall are invisible. Your stone or pavers keep their natural color and texture.
From Penetrating Sealers
Does a penetrating sealer stabilize joint sand?
Not the way a joint-stabilizing sealer does. For pavers where sand loss is the main problem, we use a joint-stabilizing sealer like Hurricane CAT 5 or Cyclone.
From Penetrating Sealers
How do I know when to reapply?
When water stops beading and soaks in quickly, it's time. Sun, traffic, salt exposure, and cleaning all affect how long it lasts.
From Penetrating Sealers
Will Cyclone change the color of my pavers?
It's chosen when you want a natural look with little or no color change.
From Trident Cyclone
Is Cyclone good for pool decks?
Yes. Natural finishes are popular for pool decks because they keep a non-glossy look. Ask about our slip resistance add-on for extra grip.
From Trident Cyclone
Cyclone or Hurricane CAT 5?
Choose Cyclone for a natural look and CAT 5 for deep color and gloss with the strongest joint stabilization.
From Trident Cyclone
Does Sea Wall leave a shine?
No. It's a non-film-forming, invisible sealer that keeps the natural look.
From Sea Wall
Where is Sea Wall best?
Seawalls, docks, and coastal hardscapes with constant salt and water exposure.
From Sea Wall
Sea Wall or Break Wall?
Both are invisible penetrating sealers. Sea Wall is solvent-based for the harshest salt exposure; Break Wall is water-based and low odor.
From Sea Wall
What is Cobble Grip?
A clear, water-based acrylic sealer from SurfaceLogix that dries to a semi-gloss sheen. We apply it with a non-skid additive in the final coat to make pool decks and walkways less slippery.
From Cobble Grip
Does Cobble Grip make a surface slip-proof?
No coating can make a wet surface slip-proof. Cobble Grip with non-skid additive adds texture that improves grip, and it works best on a clean surface with thin coats.
From Cobble Grip
Can Cobble Grip be used on marble?
Yes, after a test area. We prep marble with stone-safe cleaners only and never acid-etch it.

Articles and Guides
Why do weeds grow between my pavers so fast in Florida?
Florida has a nearly year-round growing season, and heavy summer rain washes sand out of the joints. Debris and seeds fill the gaps and sprout quickly in the heat and humidity.
Does rain really wash out paver sand?
Yes. Downpours, downspouts, and runoff carry unsealed joint sand away over time. Low joints collect dirt and seeds, which is where weeds start.
How do you clean an outdoor kitchen countertop?
Wipe with a pH-neutral cleaner after use, use a stone-safe degreaser for grease, and poultice deep stains instead of scrubbing.
Should outdoor kitchen countertops be sealed?
Yes. Most stone counters outdoors do best with a penetrating sealer that won't peel in the sun or soften near the grill.
Why is my white marble pool deck turning yellow?
Usually yellowed sealer, trapped dirt, iron in the stone, or rust from irrigation. The pattern of the yellowing usually tells which.
Can yellow sealer be removed from marble?
Yes. Yellowed sealer can be stripped back to bare stone, then resealed with a breathable, non-yellowing sealer.
Why is my pool deck so slippery?
Algae and mildew, high-gloss or built-up sealer, sunscreen residue, and smooth stone are the usual causes.
Does slip-resistant sealer really work?
Yes. A fine grit in the final coat adds texture underfoot that improves grip when the deck is wet.
Can you put new sealer over old sealer on pavers?
Yes, if the old sealer is clean, firmly bonded, and compatible. Peeling, cloudy, or unknown sealer should be tested first and may need stripping.
How do I know if my old paver sealer is failing?
Peeling, flaking, white or cloudy patches, blotchy dark areas, and a sticky film are the common signs.
What's the difference between concrete pavers and clay brick pavers?
Concrete pavers are cement with surface pigment that can fade. Clay brick is fired clay with color all the way through, so it fades very little and absorbs less water.
From How care differs for concrete pavers, clay brick, and travertine
Can you use the same cleaner on pavers and travertine?
Not always. Acidic cleaners that are sometimes used on concrete pavers etch travertine. Use pH-neutral, stone-safe cleaners on natural stone.
From How care differs for concrete pavers, clay brick, and travertine
What is the best way to clean an outdoor marble patio?
Rinse often, wash with a pH-neutral, stone-safe cleaner and a soft brush, and use low pressure if you use a washer at all.
Can I use vinegar on outdoor marble?
No. Vinegar is an acid and etches marble, leaving dull, rough spots.
What is a poultice for marble?
A paste of absorbent powder and a cleaning agent that draws a stain out of the stone as it dries.
How long do you leave a poultice on marble?
Usually 24 to 48 hours under plastic, then until the paste is completely dry. Deep stains may need two or three rounds.
Is marble or travertine better for a pool deck?
Both work well. Travertine's texture gives better grip when wet, while marble offers a crisper, veined look. Light colors of either stay cool.
Is marble more slippery than travertine?
Smooth marble can be, but tumbled or sandblasted marble grips well. Travertine's texture is naturally slip-resistant.
Is it worth sealing pavers before selling a house?
It often is. Clean, sealed pavers look better in listing photos and showings, and the work is small compared with most pre-listing projects.
How far ahead of listing should I seal my pavers?
Two to three weeks before listing photos leaves time for stain treatment or repairs and full curing.
Why do pavers under a pool cage get mildew?
The enclosure shades the deck and slows drying after rain, which gives mildew and algae time to grow.
Should I clean the screen enclosure before the pavers?
Yes. Rinse the screens and frame first, top down, so dirt doesn't land on a freshly cleaned deck.
How often should an HOA seal its pavers?
Most communities reseal every 2 to 5 years, with yearly cleaning and more frequent attention at pool decks.
How should an HOA budget for paver sealing?
Use a phased plan that seals one or two areas a year, with a separate line for pool decks and a contingency for repairs.
Is sealing pavers worth the money?
For most Florida driveways, pool decks, and lanais, yes. It slows fading, locks joint sand, resists weeds and stains, and makes cleaning easier.
What happens if you don't seal pavers?
Pavers still work, but color fades faster, joint sand washes out, and weeds, ants, and stains move in more easily.
What is the safest cleaner for pavers?
A pH-neutral cleaner is safe on concrete pavers, clay brick, travertine, and marble, and handles most routine dirt.
From Safe cleaning chemicals for pavers, travertine, and marble
Is bleach safe on pavers?
Diluted chlorine bleach can treat mildew on concrete pavers with care, but it can lighten color and harm plants. Avoid it on stone unless labeled stone-safe.
From Safe cleaning chemicals for pavers, travertine, and marble
Can you pressure wash pavers?
Yes, carefully. Use a surface cleaner or a wide fan tip at a distance, avoid spraying into the joints, and re-sand afterward.
What PSI should I use on pavers?
Use the lowest pressure that cleans, with a surface cleaner or a wide fan tip held well away from the surface. Too much pressure etches concrete pavers and damages natural stone.
How do you get oil stains out of pavers?
Blot the spill, cover it with an absorbent like clay cat litter, then scrub with a paver degreaser and rinse. Old stains may need a poultice and several applications.
Will old oil stains ever come out completely?
Fresh stains usually do. Stains that have soaked in for years often lighten a lot rather than disappear completely.
Why are my pavers sinking?
Usually water is washing sand out of the base, often near downspouts, pool edges, or a weak edge restraint. Leaks, roots, and ants can also cause settling.
Can sunken pavers be fixed without replacing them?
Yes. The pavers are lifted, the base is rebuilt and leveled, and the same pavers are reset, then cleaned and sealed.
Is water-based or solvent-based paver sealer better?
In Florida, a quality water-based urethane is usually the safer choice. It has less odor and is much less prone to turning white from trapped moisture.
Why did my solvent sealer turn white?
Moisture trapped under the film, from damp pavers, rain too soon, or humidity, can turn solvent sealer milky white. It often needs reviving or stripping.
Can faded pavers be restored?
Usually, yes. Cleaning, removing haze or old sealer, re-sanding, and a color-enhancing sealer bring back much of the original color.
Why do pavers fade so fast in Florida?
Year-round UV, rain, worn sealer, mildew, and harsh pressure washing all dull and wear the surface.
What causes dull spots on travertine?
Usually etching from acid: vinegar, citrus, drinks, pool acid, or acid-based cleaners dissolving the stone surface.
Is etching the same as a stain?
No. A stain is something soaked into the stone. Etching is damage to the stone surface itself and won't wash off.
Is travertine slippery around pools?
Tumbled and brushed travertine grip well when wet. It gets slippery mainly from algae, residue, or a glossy film sealer.
What travertine finish is best for pool decks?
Tumbled or brushed. Polished travertine is too slick when wet for outdoor use.
Does salt air damage pavers?
Over time, yes. Salt can leave haze, wear sealer faster, and cause flaking on natural stone. Regular rinsing and sealing help a lot.
How often should waterfront pavers be rinsed?
About weekly for pool decks, coping, and areas near the seawall, and several times after a storm surge.
What is the white crust on my pool deck?
Usually calcium and minerals left behind as splashed pool water evaporates, especially along the coping and water features.
How do I remove calcium from pavers?
Scrub off loose scale, use a cleaner made for calcium on concrete pavers after a test spot, rinse well, then re-sand and seal.
How do I remove leaf stains from pavers?
Use a mild oxygen-based cleaner and a brush, then rinse. Sun often fades what's left over a few weeks.
How do you get gum off pavers?
Freeze it with ice, scrape it off with a plastic scraper, and clean any residue with a degreaser.
What kills weeds between pavers permanently?
Nothing is truly permanent, but full joint sand plus a joint-stabilizing sealer comes close. It removes the soil weeds need and binds the sand so roots can't get through.
Is it safe to use salt or vinegar on pavers?
No. Salt can damage concrete pavers and kills grass along the edges, and vinegar is an acid that etches travertine, marble, and limestone.
What causes black spots on pavers in Florida?
Most black spots are mildew or mold growing in shade and moisture. Irrigation overspray, poor drainage, and leaves on the surface make it worse.
Can I use bleach on my pavers?
A diluted cleaner made for hardscape mildew works, but protect your plants, follow the label, and rinse well. Don't use strong or acidic cleaners on travertine, marble, or limestone.
Why are there sand piles on my pavers?
Small piles of fine sand on top of pavers are almost always ants carrying sand up from their nest below the joints.
Do ants damage pavers?
Yes. By removing joint and bedding sand, ants can cause empty joints, weeds, and pavers that rock or sink over time.
How often should pavers be resealed in Florida?
Most pavers need resealing every 2 to 5 years. Driveways and sunny pool decks are usually on the shorter end, and covered lanais on the longer end.
Is it bad to seal pavers every year?
Usually, yes. Yearly coats build up and can turn cloudy, peel, or become slippery. Reseal when the water test shows the seal is worn.
What is the best cleaner for a travertine pool deck?
A pH-neutral cleaner labeled safe for natural stone. Use a stone-safe mildew cleaner for shady spots, and avoid anything acidic.
Can I pressure wash travertine?
Yes, carefully. Use low pressure with a surface cleaner or a wide fan tip held at a distance. A narrow tip up close can damage the stone and blow out the joints.
What is the coolest pool deck material in Florida?
Light-colored travertine is usually the coolest underfoot. Light-colored pavers, porcelain, and coatings also stay cooler than dark surfaces.
Are pavers or travertine better for a pool deck?
Pavers offer more colors and easy repairs at a lower cost. Travertine gives a natural stone look and a cooler feel but needs stone-safe care.
What is the best month to seal pavers in Florida?
October through May is the easiest window in Tampa Bay, with spring being ideal before hurricane season. We seal year-round when the weather allows.
Can you seal pavers in the rainy season?
Yes, with planning. We start early to finish before afternoon storms and watch the forecast closely.
How do I clean mud off pavers after a flood?
Scrape off as much as you can before it dries, then rinse with plenty of fresh water and gentle pressure. Wear gloves and boots, since floodwater mud can be contaminated.
Does salt water damage pavers and travertine?
Salt left to dry inside stone can cause flaking and pitting over time. Rinsing thoroughly with fresh water after surge helps a lot.
Can peeling paver sealer be fixed?
Yes. The old sealer is stripped, the pavers are cleaned and re-sanded, and a fresh, compatible sealer is applied.
Is it cheaper to strip and reseal or replace pavers?
Stripping and resealing usually costs a fraction of replacement, because there's no tear-out, new base, or new pavers.
Can I seal my own pavers?
Yes, if you clean thoroughly, let everything dry completely, fill the joints, and apply thin coats in a dry weather window. Most DIY problems come from skipping those steps.
Why did my DIY paver sealer turn white?
Usually moisture was trapped under the sealer, from damp pavers or sand, rain too soon after, or a solvent product in humid weather.
Should Shellock pavers be sealed?
Yes. Sealing helps resist stains and mildew and makes cleaning easier.
Can Shellock be pressure washed?
Use controlled pressure and surface cleaners to avoid etching the textured surface.
Is water-based or solvent-based sealer better in Florida?
Breathable water-based sealers are popular here because Florida pavers are often damp, and they're less likely to trap moisture. Solvent-based sealers have their place, mainly for heavy salt exposure.

Do I need HOA approval to seal my pavers?
Many HOAs require approval for exterior changes, especially wet-look finishes that change color. Check your community's rules.
Can you provide documents for my HOA?
Yes. We provide the product name, finish, sand color, and a written scope for your approval request.
Do you seal common areas and clubhouses?
Yes. We seal HOA pool decks, entrances, and clubhouse areas and schedule around residents.
Do I need to seal my pavers every year?
No. Resealing too often builds up sealer and can cause a cloudy, slippery finish. Most homes need resealing every 2 to 5 years.
How can I tell when it's time to reseal?
Sprinkle water on the pavers. If it beads up, the sealer is still working. If it soaks in and darkens the pavers quickly, it's time.
Does a wet look sealer last longer than a natural one?
Not necessarily. Durability depends on the sealer chemistry, the prep, and traffic more than on the shine.
What causes orange stains on pavers?
Most often irrigation on well water, which carries iron. Fertilizer granules and metal furniture or planters also leave rust.
Will pressure washing remove rust?
No. Rust is a chemical stain and needs a rust remover. Pressure alone usually just spreads it out, and too much pressure can damage the surface.
Is rust remover safe on travertine and marble?
Many are acidic and can etch calcium-based stone like travertine, marble, and limestone. Use only products made for natural stone, and test first.
Does every sealer make pavers slippery?
No. Natural, penetrating sealers barely change the feel. Glossy finishes and heavy coats are the ones that can feel slick when wet.
Can you add slip resistance?
Yes. We offer a slip-resistant additive mixed into the sealer for an additional charge.
Is slip resistance worth it on a pool deck?
For families with kids or older relatives, or decks that stay damp, it's a smart, low-cost upgrade.
Can I pressure wash my own pavers?
You can, but use a surface cleaner, keep the wand moving, and expect to lose joint sand. Plan to re-sand afterward.
From Paver cleaning vs. pressure washing: what's the difference?
Does pressure washing damage pavers?
Too much pressure or a narrow tip can etch the surface and blow out the joints.
From Paver cleaning vs. pressure washing: what's the difference?
Do I need to seal after cleaning?
It's the best time to seal, because the surface is clean and the joints need fresh sand anyway.
From Paver cleaning vs. pressure washing: what's the difference?
What's the most common paver problem?
Joint sand loss. It leads to weeds, ants, and shifting pavers.
Which problems need repair before sealing?
Sunken, lifted, or broken pavers, and loose edges. We coordinate repairs with top-rated local installers before sealing.
Why does my sealer look cloudy?
Usually because moisture or efflorescence was trapped, or too much sealer was applied. It often has to be stripped and redone.
Can I fix a bad sealing job without stripping?
Sometimes, if the sealer is sound but thin. Peeling, white, or sticky sealer almost always needs to be stripped first.
Is a cheaper quote always worse?
Not always, but ask what's included. Most low quotes skip deep cleaning, joint sand, or the second coat.
Can I seal over polymeric sand?
Often, yes, once it has fully cured. Check the sand manufacturer's guidance first.
Which lasts longer?
Both can last years when installed correctly. Joint-stabilizing sealer is refreshed each time you reseal, which makes long-term maintenance simple.
Which do you use?
For most cleaning and resealing jobs, we wash in ASTM C144 joint sand and harden it with a joint-stabilizing sealer. We also use PolySweep polymeric sand where it fits the project.
When is the best time to seal pavers in Tampa Bay?
Spring, before the summer rainy season and hurricane season start on June 1, is ideal. We seal year-round when the weather allows.
Does sealing protect pavers from flooding?
Sealing hardens joint sand so it resists washout from heavy rain. It can't prevent damage from standing floodwater or a failed base.
What should I check after a big storm?
Look for washed-out joints, sunken areas, and debris stains. Low spots may need re-leveling before resealing.
Why are some quotes so much cheaper?
Usually less prep: a quick rinse, no joint sand, and one thin coat. It looks good briefly, then fades or washes out.
From Tips on hiring a paver sealing company: 8 questions to ask
Should I get a written estimate?
Always, with the measured square footage and what's included.
From Tips on hiring a paver sealing company: 8 questions to ask
Why do pavers sink?
Usually because the base under them settled or washed out, or the edge restraint failed.
Can sealing fix a bad base?
No. Sealing locks the surface and joints. Base problems need repair and re-leveling first.
Which finish is most popular?
Wet look is popular on driveways and entries; natural finishes are popular on pool decks and modern homes.
Can I switch finishes later?
Going from wet look to natural usually requires stripping first, so choose carefully.
Does a natural sealer still protect?
Yes. Natural sealers protect against stains and water and, for pavers, can still stabilize joint sand.
How long should I wait to seal new pavers?
Many installers recommend 60 to 90 days so efflorescence can surface and be cleaned off. Some breathable sealers can go on sooner; we check your pavers before recommending a date.
What is the white haze on my new pavers?
That's usually efflorescence, natural salts that rise out of new concrete pavers. It must be removed before sealing.
Will sealing too early void my paver warranty?
Check your installer's and manufacturer's warranty terms. We're happy to work around their recommended timing.
Is missing joint sand a big deal?
Yes. Joint sand locks pavers together. Without it, pavers shift, edges spread, and weeds and ants move in.
Can I just sweep in more sand?
It helps short term, but unsealed sand washes out again. Washing sand in and sealing it lasts much longer.
Does polymeric sand stop sand loss?
It can, when installed correctly. For resealing, joint sand plus a joint-stabilizing sealer works well.
Will cloudy sealer go away on its own?
Light haze from humidity sometimes clears as it cures. Cloudiness that lasts more than a few days usually needs correction.
Can cloudy sealer be fixed without stripping?
Occasionally, but most persistent white or milky sealer has to be stripped and the pavers resealed.
How do you prevent cloudy sealer?
Proper drying time, removing efflorescence first, the right sealer for the surface, and the correct dilution and number of coats.
Is sealing pavers worth it?
For most Florida homes, yes. It protects the investment and reduces maintenance.
When shouldn't I seal?
Over dirty, stained, or sunken pavers, or over failed sealer. Fix those first.
How much does it cost to seal pavers in Florida?
Professional cleaning, sanding, and sealing is estimated at about $1.75 to $3.00 or more per square foot in Tampa Bay, based on the condition of your paver system. Stripping failed sealer for a full restoration typically runs $3.00 to $5.00 per square foot.
Is there a minimum charge?
Small jobs take nearly the same setup as large ones, so very small areas may have a minimum. We'll tell you up front in your written estimate.
Is it cheaper to seal pavers myself?
Materials alone can run $50 to $100 per gallon for professional-grade sealer, plus sand, cleaners, and equipment. The bigger risk is cost later: poor prep or heavy coats can leave a cloudy, peeling, or slippery finish that then has to be stripped.
Does stripping old sealer cost extra?
Yes. Removing failed sealer is extra labor and product. If your sealer is peeling, white, or blotchy, it needs to come off before resealing.
How long before I can walk on my sealed pavers?
Furniture and other items can go back on the pavers 24 hours after sealing. Allow extra time in cold or damp weather.
From Sealing Day Prep
How long before I can drive on my sealed driveway?
48 hours after cleaning and sealing is complete. Allow extra time in cold or damp weather.
From Sealing Day Prep
When are the sand joints fully cured?
The sand joints are fully cured in 2 to 3 days.
From Sealing Day Prep
What happens if it rains after sealing?
Don't worry. We use high-quality, water-based 2-part urethane sealers that begin curing as soon as they're applied, with a typical drying time of 2 to 3 hours. If excessive rain affects the finish, we'll gladly reseal it at no charge if necessary.
