Joint Sand Colors
We use ASTM C144 washed, screened, and dried joint sand, which is coarse and angular for tight, stable joints. It comes in six colors:
- Pearl
- Tan
- Gray
- Fieldstone
- Platinum
- Black
The right color makes your pavers look finished. Earth-tone pavers usually pair well with Tan or Fieldstone, gray and charcoal pavers with Gray, Platinum, or Black, and light pavers or travertine-look pavers with Pearl.

Sealer Finishes
| Finish | Look | Common Choice for | Example Product |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural / matte | Clean pavers with no shine or color change | Pool decks, modern homes, travertine-look pavers | Trident Cyclone |
| Semi-gloss / enhanced | Richer color with a soft sheen | Faded driveways and patios | Hurricane CAT 5 at a lighter dilution |
| Wet look / high gloss | Deep color and a just-rained shine | Front entries and show-piece driveways | Hurricane CAT 5 |
Glossy finishes can feel slick when wet. For pool decks and walkways, ask about our slip resistance add-on.
Types of Joint Sand Compared
| Sand Type | What It Is | How It Performs |
|---|---|---|
| ASTM C144 joint sand | Washed, screened, angular sand graded for joints | Locks tightly and hardens with a joint-stabilizing sealer; our standard |
| Polymeric sand | Sand blended with polymers activated by water | Firm joints on its own; must be installed carefully to avoid haze |
| Play or mason sand | Fine, rounded sand | Washes out quickly and doesn't lock; we don't use it |
We wet-sand ASTM C144 sand deep into the joints, then seal with Hurricane CAT 5, whose extra urethane hardens the sand for strong joint stability. See polymeric sand vs. joint-stabilizing sealer and our paver joint sand page.
Customer Reviews: Sand Colors & Finishes
Steve and his brother came by and did my patio pavers all in a day. The job looks phenomenal and they revived life into my pavers. Very happy with how professional and detailed they were with the job. All spots that had any plant growth were thoroughly dug out, chemically handled to kill the growth and then re sanded. Very pleased with their work and I will definitely be calling Steve again when it’s time to reseal.
I would give them 10 stars if I could. Steve came out the day after I called him on a Sunday. He was very professional & he explained every detail of what they would do, including cleaning all of the pavers including getting all of the mold & weeds that were coming thru them. He also said that they would clean the screens on the porch as well as the mold on the outside of the pavers outside the patio & our front porch. He said they would put 3 coats of sealant as well as fill the areas that needed sand. They even moved the heavy furniture. We went over the price which was great, & 2 days later while we were away and did everything he said they would & did a great job. Steve even came out when we got home to help move furniture back onto the porch. I will definitely use them again & tell all my friends about them.
What a blessing to have such dedicated professionals as Steve and Sam, who go above and beyond to deliver a superb and thorough service. I knew from using them previously that they were proficient, but they surprised me by adding new technology to their cleaning and sealing. The pool cleaning was an added bonus, as was the selection of sand tints tailored to the paver tones. As usual, they surpassed my expectations by also pressure washing my pool screens, filtering out sealer from my filtration system, and vacuuming out sand from my slider door tracks. They are the best and their prices are very competitive.

Sand Colors & Finishes FAQs
How do I choose a joint sand color?
Pick a color that blends with the darker tones in your pavers for a uniform look, or a contrasting color to outline each paver. We bring samples to your estimate.
Can I change from a wet look to a natural finish later?
A wet-look film sealer usually has to be stripped before switching to a natural finish. It's best to choose carefully the first time, and we're happy to show you examples.
Which finish lasts longest?
Durability depends more on the sealer type, prep, and traffic than on shine level. Two-part urethane sealers like Hurricane CAT 5 are built for high-traffic areas.
What type of sand is best for paver joints?
Washed, angular ASTM C144 joint sand, wet-sanded deep into the joints and hardened with a joint-stabilizing sealer. Fine play sand washes out.
