Penetrating sealer protecting outdoor travertine, marble, and limestone

Marble, limestone, and other natural stones are beautiful, but they're also porous. Florida rain, pool water, salt air, and sprinkler overspray soak in, and that moisture brings stains, mildew, and surface wear with it. The right sealer protects the stone from the inside without changing how it looks.

We use these sealers on outdoor marble and stone only, including pool decks, patios, walkways, and outdoor kitchens.

Why Penetrating Sealers Work Best on Marble and Stone

Many paver sealers form a film on top of the surface. That works well on concrete pavers, but on dense natural stone a film can look cloudy, feel slick, or peel. A penetrating sealer is different. It soaks into the stone's pores and bonds there, creating a water-repellent barrier below the surface.

  • Invisible protection. The stone keeps its natural color and texture.
  • Breathable. Moisture vapor can escape, so the sealer won't trap water or efflorescence.
  • No peeling. There's no surface film to wear off or flake.
  • Salt and water protection. Ideal for pool decks, coastal homes, and salt water pools.

Water-Based vs. Solvent-Based Penetrating Sealers

Both types use silane and siloxane chemistry to repel water and salt. The main differences are the carrier and where each one shines.

How We Seal Marble and Natural Stone

  1. Inspect and test. We check the stone type and condition, then test the sealer on a small area.
  2. Clean with stone-safe products. Marble and limestone react to acids, so we use cleaners made for natural stone.
  3. Treat stains. Rust, mildew, and mineral deposits get treated before sealing, because sealer locks in what's left behind.
  4. Apply the penetrating sealer. We apply even coats and remove any excess so the finish stays natural.

Stones We Protect

We seal outdoor marble and limestone, sandblasted marble, travertine, shellstone and coquina, and other natural stone used on Florida pool decks, patios, and entryways. Not sure what stone you have? We'll identify it during your free estimate.

Pool deck or walkway feeling slick? We offer a slip resistance add-on for an additional charge. Ask about it when you request your estimate.

I highly recommend this company!!! Steve the owner and his brother do all the work themselves. I am highly impressed with the level of excellence when they sealed my natural stone pool deck and cleaned the screened in cage. They did a really nice job!!! I will never use anyone else again. It’s a level of quality I had not seen before with other companies.

5/5 Stars – Exceptional Quality and True Professionals!

Sam and Steve did an incredible job sealing our new travertine pool deck and lanai. From start to finish, their level of service, expertise, and attention to detail were second to none.

What really set them apart:

  • Next-Level Thoroughness & Modern Solutions: Sam took a sample of our actual travertine, had Steve work on it off-site, and brought it back to us so we could evaluate the non-skid finish in advance of any work being done. They even brought in newer, cutting-edge products to give us the best and most up-to-date options on the market.
  • Miracle Stain Removal: We had a stubborn box stain that my wife and I spent hours trying to remove using a professional product, with zero luck. Sam and Steve worked their magic, and the spot is now completely invisible!
  • Seamless Experience: They were quick with pricing, prompt with scheduling, meticulous during the application, and left the entire area spotless when they finished.

They came highly recommended to us by a trusted friend, the owner of local pool company we’ve known for 50 years, and their results completely speak for themselves. If you need travertine sealing (pavers too) or restoration, look no further than Sam and Steve we will definitely be repeat customers!

Marble & Stone Sealing Products FAQs

What is the best sealer for outdoor marble in Florida?

For most outdoor marble, a breathable penetrating sealer is the safest choice. It protects against water, salt, and stains without changing the look of the stone or creating a film that can peel. We test on a small area first to confirm the result on your stone.

Will a penetrating sealer make my marble shiny or darker?

No. Break Wall and Sea Wall are invisible sealers. Your marble or limestone keeps its natural color and texture. If you want a richer, enhanced color, ask us about enhancing options during your estimate.

Can you use a wet look paver sealer on marble?

We don't recommend it. Trident's data sheet for Hurricane CAT 5, a wet look urethane sealer, says it isn't recommended for marble, granite, or polished and honed surfaces because they don't have enough texture to absorb the sealer.

What's the difference between water-based and solvent-based penetrating sealers?

Both soak into the stone and repel water and salt. Water-based sealers like Break Wall are low odor and can go on dry or damp surfaces. Solvent-based sealers like Sea Wall are built for the toughest exposure, such as seawalls, docks, and areas with constant salt spray.

How long does a penetrating sealer last?

It depends on sun, foot traffic, cleaning habits, and salt exposure. A simple test helps: if water stops beading and soaks in quickly, it's time to reseal. We'll recommend a schedule for your property.

Do you test before sealing natural stone?

Always. Every stone is different, and Trident recommends a pre-test on a small area to confirm performance and appearance before sealing the whole surface.

What is the difference between a penetrating and a topical stone sealer?

A penetrating sealer soaks in and leaves no film. A topical sealer forms a coating on top, adding sheen, and isn't recommended for marble.
