An outdoor kitchen takes more abuse than any other part of the patio: grease splatter, sauce drips, smoke, pool splash, and full Florida sun. The stone counters, stacked stone veneer, and pavers or travertine around the grill all stain differently. Cleaning and sealing outdoor kitchens is part of our exterior work, along with the patio and pool deck around them.
The Three Surfaces in an Outdoor Kitchen
| Surface | Common Problems | How We Treat It |
|---|---|---|
| Stone countertops | Grease rings, wine and sauce stains, water spots, dull areas from acids | Stone-safe degreaser, poultice for deep stains, penetrating sealer |
| Stacked stone and veneer | Smoke staining, mildew, efflorescence, dirt in the crevices | Low-pressure cleaning, soft brushing, breathable sealer |
| Pavers or travertine around the grill | Grease drips, charcoal and ash, food stains | Degreasing, stain treatment, joint sand, and sealer |
Cleaning Grease and Food Stains
- Scrape and blot fresh spills and drips right away.
- Use a degreaser rated for the surface. Alkaline degreasers are fine on concrete pavers; marble, travertine, and many countertops need stone-safe products.
- Poultice deep stains on stone counters instead of scrubbing harder. See removing stains with a poultice.
- Rinse thoroughly so cleaner residue doesn't attract new dirt.

Sealing Outdoor Kitchen Countertops
Most stone counters outdoors do best with a penetrating sealer that soaks in and leaves no film, so it won't peel in the sun or soften near the grill. A simple test tells you when it's time: put a few drops of water on the counter, and if they darken the stone within a few minutes, it needs resealing. Outdoors in Florida that's often every year or two. Our marble and stone sealing products page explains the difference between penetrating and film-forming sealers.
Sealing the Floor Around the Grill
The pavers or travertine in front of the grill catch the most grease. A fresh seal keeps drips near the surface so they wipe up instead of soaking in, and full joints keep ash and crumbs from settling between pavers. We seal the kitchen floor with the rest of the lanai so the color matches. See patio, lanai, and outdoor kitchen sealing.
Everyday Habits That Help
- Use a grill mat under the grill and smoker.
- Keep cutting boards and trays under raw food, citrus, and marinades.
- Cover the counters and grill during long stretches without use.
- Wipe the counters with a pH-neutral cleaner after each cookout.
What We Don't Do
We clean and seal exterior surfaces only. We don't refinish, hone, or polish countertops, and we don't work on indoor kitchens. If a counter needs refinishing, we'll tell you before we start.
We clean and seal outdoor kitchens and lanais in FishHawk, South Tampa, Wesley Chapel, and across Tampa Bay.
This company exceeded my expectations. I’m very pleased with the results. They are professional, punctual & pricing is very fair. I called on Tuesday, they came by for an In person consultation on Wednesday, then began work on Thursday morning. Great work ethic & excellent attention to detail. I’m very happy w/ the work & my patio, courtyard & driveway look beautiful! They even did my sidewalk! I highly recommend them & I intend to have them do additional maintenance.
Outdoor Kitchen Stone Care: Cleaning and Sealing FAQs
How do you clean an outdoor kitchen countertop?
Wipe with a pH-neutral cleaner after use, use a stone-safe degreaser for grease, and poultice deep stains instead of scrubbing.
Should outdoor kitchen countertops be sealed?
Yes. Most stone counters outdoors do best with a penetrating sealer that won't peel in the sun or soften near the grill.
How often should an outdoor kitchen counter be resealed?
In Florida, often every year or two. If water darkens the stone within a few minutes, it's time.
How do I get grease off pavers around my grill?
Blot fresh drips, then use a degreaser rated for the surface and rinse. Sealing keeps future drips near the surface.
Do you clean stacked stone on outdoor kitchens?
Yes. We clean stacked stone and veneer at low pressure with soft brushing, then apply a breathable sealer.
Do you work on indoor kitchens?
No. We clean and seal exterior surfaces only, including outdoor kitchens, lanais, patios, and pool decks.
